Requirements Every member of the agency is required to perform the duties and responsibilities assigned by FAMU Police. Perform assigned duties in a concerted effort to enhance campus policing while promoting an environment of inclusion and maintaining positive community relations; Provide public safety and law enforcement services upon FAMU grounds; Perform law enforcement duties that may involve situations requiring the use of specialized equipment and/or the handling of heavy objects and traffic and animals; Operate vehicles, equipment, carts, ATVs, and material-handling equipment as required by assignment; Maintain situational awareness of surroundings and environmental conditions, particularly when working around moving vehicles, property, and specialized equipment. Preserve and maintain safety standards and properly use required protective equipment and gear; Conduct traffic stops and prepare reports using the Traffic and Criminal Software (TRACS), as required; Photograph accident scenes and interview persons involved in traffic accidents to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and practice safe driving; Patrol assigned areas, monitor different parking events, and provide traffic control as needed; Assist with law enforcement activities involving traffic, property, and other incidents as required; Operate and maintain service vehicles, uniforms, badges, and other assigned law enforcement equipment. Supervise Evidence Personnel and inform subordinates of relevant University regulations, standard operating procedures, and accreditation standards; Ensure compliance with University regulations, internal operating procedures, and accreditation standards and provide access to related documents; Assess and document subordinate performance through established procedures and accreditation standards; Conduct evaluations of subordinate personnel as required; Operate the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and complete required documentation and reports at the end of each shift. Participate in and provide training and orientation for new hires, including familiarization with applicable systems and procedures; Serve as a liaison between the Police Department, clients, vendors, and the general public; Assist law enforcement command functions as directed; Participate in University special events and law enforcement activities as needed; Assist the Police Department in drafting and revising General Orders, applicable standards, and procedures; Keep law enforcement policies and procedures current to promote effective operations and enhance the agency's ability to meet applicable standards; Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes, and two years of sworn law enforcement experience, and for promotional appointments, successful completion of the written test for this class. Competencies Knowledge of law enforcement principles and techniques, the criminal justice system, crime prevention and control procedures, and arrest procedures; Knowledge of University policies, rules, and regulations, including student codes; current statutes; law updates; standard operating procedures; and applicable laws and regulations; Skill and ability to qualify annually with firearms; Skill and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in emergency and non-emergency situations; Ability to work effectively in dangerous and stressful situations; Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to effectively apply emergency medical care techniques; Ability to determine work priorities and complete work assignments efficiently and accurately; Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and, Ability to follow oral and written directives.
