19,868 Position Details The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners of Homewood, IL will hold an online written examination for the position of

ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER.

Eligible applicants must be available with computer and internet access for 2 hours between 12:00 a.m. CST on 09/19/2026 and 11:59 p.m. CST on 09/20/2026. Testing is being conducted to establish an eligibility list for current openings as well as for anticipated future hiring needs.

Qualifications:

Applicants for examination must be citizens of the United States and/or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States. In addition, an individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process is authorized to apply for the position of police officer, subject to: (i) all requirements and limitations, other that citizenship, to which other applicants are subject and (ii) the individual being authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, or purchase or otherwise possess a firearm. Applications shall be filed upon blank forms furnished by the Board, and applicants must comply with the requirements of said form in every respect. The application must be filed with the Board prior to the application deadline established by the Board. Applicants must be of good moral character, of temperate habits, of sound health and must be physically able to perform the duties of the position applied for. The burden of establishing these facts rests upon the applicant; A false statement knowingly made by a person in an application for examination, connivance in any false statement made in any certificate which may accompany such application or complicity in any fraud regarding the same, shall be regarded as good cause for exclusion from the examination. Applicants shall be at least 21years of age and under 35 years of age at such time as they take the initial written examination, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6. Proof of birth date shall be required at time of application. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Proof of education requirements shall be required at the time of application. Applicants must have a valid driver's license. Must have a valid FOID card or be legally capable of obtaining a valid FOID card upon hire. Applicants must submit a copy of an Illinois POWER (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) test card issued no earlier than 1 year prior to the chosen written examination date with their application.
