Job Description

The Rolling Meadows Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Police Assistant. This civilian position provides administrative, customer service and field support to Police Department personnel and the community. The Police Assistant performs a variety of duties, primarily assisting residents and visitors at the non-emergency Police Desk, processing reports and records, performing data entry and parking enforcement, providing traffic and animal control assistance, conducting vehicle lockouts and completing other clerical and operational assignments. This position offers a diverse work environment with responsibilities performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Provide courteous and professional customer service to residents, visitors and other agencies in person and via telephone at the non-emergency Police Desk. Perform data entry, records management and other clerical and administrative duties. Assist with parking enforcement, vehicle lockouts, animal control and traffic control. Prepare and maintain reports, records and departmental documentation. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive, confidential and criminal justice information. Operate department vehicles, radios, computers and other office equipment safely and effectively. Work cooperatively with City staff, outside agencies and members of the public. Perform other related duties as assigned. Competencies Excellent customer service and communication skills A positive, professional attitude Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Good judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems The ability to work independently and as part of a team Flexibility to perform a variety of indoor and outdoor duties Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age Possess a high school diploma or equivalent Hold a valid Illinois driver's license Ability to successfully complete the Police Department's background investigation and drug screening process Ability to obtain and maintain LEADS certification Bilingual (Spanish) skills highly preferred Duties may be performed in an office environment as well as outdoors in various weather conditions. Requires regular interaction with the public and exposure to sensitive law enforcement information. Compensation & Benefits The salary for this position is $18.83 per hour (effective January 1, 2026, upon LEADS certification). This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union. All compensation and benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement . Schedule This position is regularly scheduled for up to 19 hours per week. Work schedules may include daytime, evening, weekend and holiday hours based on operational needs.
