IU POLICE DEPARTMENT

(UA-PD-IUINA) Job Summary Protects citizens' rights, property, and persons; identifies and prevents criminal and delinquent behavior; maintains order and facilitates the safe, expeditious movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Assists citizens, resolves conflict, maintains order, and deters crime; provides information to students, faculty, and staff regarding state, local, and federal law, as well as university policy and procedures. Investigates complaints and accidents, documents information, maintains records, collects evidence, questions individuals, drafts and enters reports in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS); enters information/reports/accidents/citations into all software systems and databases as required. Issues citations and/or arrests law violators; prepares and serves civil processes; responds quickly to medical assistance calls, accidents, fires, disturbances, and breaches of law; administers aid as a first responder. Provides security for buildings and university property; provides security and law enforcement presence for special events (commencement, athletic events, visiting dignitaries, cultural events, etc.). Performs additional public safety/service duties as needed. Qualifications This position is posted at a Foundational Career Level but may be filled at another level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Requirements:
EDUCATION

Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) certification eligible upon date of hire Attain firearms qualification within 1 year from date of hire Attain university required certifications in CPR, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, IDACS, etc. within 1 year from date of hire Complete all required annual law enforcement training and attain required certifications as prescribed by Indiana state law and the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board (ILETB) within 1 year from date of hire SKILLS Required Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Possesses a high degree of initiative Promotes information sharing Articulate and responsive to colleagues Excellent collaboration and team building skills Demonstrates problem solving skills Friendly and service-oriented Proactively approaches responsibilities Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills If not ILEA certified, ability to pass physical fitness standards Ability to utilize technology including computers and word processing/email/database software systems Patrol Officer (Intermediate)

Requirements:

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required 1 year of law enforcement experience
