Job Description:
Essential Duties Patrol assigned areas on foot, in a patrol vehicle, or by specialized means to ensure the safety and security of the people, buildings, and grounds. Investigate crimes and other incidents as directed Interact frequently with students, faculty, staff and visitors Exercise police powers in a fair and equitable manner by making arrests, conducting searches, restraining violent persons, transporting persons under restraints and advising suspects of their constitutional rights. Investigate traffic accidents on campus Enforcement of traffic and safety laws and regulations Perform related duties such as cooperating and sharing of information with other agencies Officers are assigned on a rotating basis to one of the three shifts that may include weekends, nights, and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police, Command Staff, or Senior Command Staff. Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure college collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork. Additional/specialized duties may include the following: Assist in department programs and initiatives such as, but not limited to community engagement activities, critical incident training, and self-defense training. MPTC Certified armorer and firearm safety instructor MPTC Certified TASER instruction MPTC Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor
Certified Child Passenger Safety Officer Job Requirements:
All candidates must complete Peace Officer Standards and Training Committee (MPTC) approved basic training program. All candidates must complete Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) approved physical and psychological fitness evaluation. All final candidates must pass an examination approved by POST All final candidates must successfully complete an interview administered by POST. Good moral character and fit for employment in law enforcement as determined by POST. Please be advised that not all the above requirements need to be met or satisfied prior to hire. At least 21 years old High School diploma or GED equivalent Massachusetts Class A License to Carry Valid Massachusetts Driver's License Ability to receive and retain MA POST Commission Certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment, and must pass a required background check pursuant to M.G.L. c. 6E, 4 as a condition of employment. Ability to successfully complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified Recruit Officer Course (ROC) https://www.mass.gov/service-details/mptc-full-time-police-academies and receive and retain a Massachusetts Special State Police Warrant (SSPO) in accordance with MGL Chapter 22C, section 63; https://www.mass.gov/regulations/515-CMR-500-standards-of-skill-for-special-state-police-officers and applicable city and/or town special police authority as deemed necessary by the Massasoit Community College Police Department. Applicants who completed an out-of-state recruit academy must apply for a permanent exemption through the Massachusetts State Police requirements - More information can be found here: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/request-an-exemption-or-temporary-waiver Knowledge of police procedures and practices, the laws of arrest and criminal procedures. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare written reports. Preferred:
Graduation from an MPTC Full-Time Police Academy or SSPO Academy Or completion of the Massachusetts Bridge Academy with eligibility for an MPTC waiver under 555 CMR 3.03 Previous experience in law enforcement and knowledge of Massachusetts police procedures. Experience in the use of police dispatch software, report writing software, and DCJIS technology. Prior experience in campus law enforcement
