Job Description

The Town of Wiscasset is seeking a Full-Time SRO. The School Resource Officer supports and facilitates the educational process within the Wiscasset Public School system by working to ensure a safe and secure environment through the foundation and maintenance of meaningful relationships with students, faculty, staff and parents. The SRO will proactively interact with the school community to enforce laws and ordinances, to maintain preservation of public order, protection of life, and the prevention, detection and investigation of crime. The SRO will work effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community agencies to support teaching and learning in the schools. The SRO will patrol Wiscasset school property to protect students, staff and visitors from physical harm and prevent loss to district property from criminal activity. The School Resource Officer will conduct routine police activities when not performing School Resource activities. The successful candidate must have strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills; knowledge of police regulations, protocols, communications, and reporting, the ability get along with others in a professional manner; the ability to work well with youth, parents, and school administration; the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely, detailed, and accurate manner; and excellent organizational and time management skills. The successful candidate must also be able to respond to emergencies and manage high stress situations.
Experience and Education/Training:
  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or prior military experience preferred, or;
  • Five (5) years of law enforcement experience ; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses/Certifications/Oth er:
  • Valid Maine Criminal Justice Academy basic law enforcement officer certification.
  • Certification in both Basic and Advanced SRO courses through the National Association of School Resource Officers Association (NASRO).
  • Valid State of Maine Class C Driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
  • Must meet all the minimum requirements of a Patrol Officer.
