SCOPE OF WORK

The School Resource Officer (SRO) / Tribal Ranger promotes a safe, secure, and supportive school environment by providing a visible law enforcement presence, supporting crime prevention and emergency preparedness, delivering safety education, and responding to law enforcement matters. The position serves as a liaison among Community Schools, Tribal Law Enforcement, Tribal Government, families, and the community; enforces applicable Tribal, Federal, and State laws within the scope of authority and jurisdiction; and supports the educational mission of the schools. Under the direction of the Director of Game & Fish or designated Tribal Law Enforcement supervisor, the SRO works closely with school administration and staff and coordinates, as appropriate, with Tribal Law Enforcement, Tribal Court, BIA Police, CPS, Tribal leadership, and other agencies while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and policies.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrol K12 schools and school-sponsored activities, respond to safety concerns and disturbances, and enforce applicable Tribal, Federal, and State laws within authorized jurisdiction.

Provide safety education, crime prevention, emergency preparedness, and programs addressing juvenile matters, substance abuse, bullying, violence prevention, and applicable laws.

Complete monthly school safety and security assessments and conduct or assist with investigations, searches, evidence handling, and other authorized law enforcement activities.

Maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, Tribal leadership, and community partners while coordinating with law enforcement and other agencies as needed.

Prepare accurate incident, investigative, activity, and monthly reports; maintain required records and certifications; and perform Reservation-wide patrol and other assigned duties during school breaks, evenings, weekends, and summer months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or rated field preferred. Experience will be considered. Valid drivers license.

SHIFT:

Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., flexible schedule that may include regular, rotating, evening, weekend, holiday, school-break, summer, and emergency call-back shifts based on school and operational needs.
