Job Description

Position Summary:
The Sheriff Deputy is responsible for maintaining peace and enforcing laws within the county's jurisdiction. Essential Job Functions Monitor assigned areas to prevent and respond to criminal activity, ensuring public safety. Respond to emergency calls, accidents, disturbances, and criminal incidents. Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and write detailed reports. Apprehend suspects, issue citations, and transport individuals to detention facilities. Serve subpoenas, provide courtroom security, and testify in legal proceedings. Foster positive relationships with community members, participate in outreach programs, and provide crime prevention education. Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic during incidents or events, and investigate accidents. Deliver legal documents such as eviction notices, restraining orders, court summons, etc. All other duties as assigned. Preferred Talents Working knowledge of Keith County Sheriff's Office Policy and Procedures. Speak, read, and write the English language. Communicate effectively both verbally and written. Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, practice and procedures, state laws, local ordinances and first aid. Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Flexibility in scheduling. Modern office practices and basic math skills. Relevant computer hardware and software applications. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to attend and graduate from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) Basic Academy Training. Nebraska Operators License. Physical Requirements This position is routinely required to work with the hand or hands in handling, seizing, holding, or grasping motions and with the fingers in picking or pinching actions. This position is required to frequently lift up to 30lbs and occasionally may be required to exert up to 50lbs of force. The employee is occasionally required to maintain body equilibrium while bending at the waist or at the knees. The employee is required to sit, stand for long periods of time, talk and hear, and walk, climb, balance, kneel, or crawl. Working Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazardous situations, which may involve physically violent or mentally disturbed persons. The employee is required to work outside normal business hours, and may be required to work weekends, nights, and holidays. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderately noisy. At times, the noise level may be loud, with frequent interruptions and multiple demands.
