PATROL OFFICER I
positions. Entry-level applicants who do not possess current training andcertification as police officers in New Jersey will be consideredbut are required to attend a New Jersey Police Academy, meet therequirements for the Basic Police Course, and commit to employmentas a Patrol Officer with Monmouth University for a period of 3 years . Costs to attend thepolice academy training are paid by the university. Trainees arepaid $19.25 per hour. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remoteposition. As part of an assigned team, University Police Officers providecampus safety, security, and law enforcement services to theUniversity community. In addition, the individual provides a widerange of services, including both traditional and non-traditionalpolice services. The successful candidate must project a positive image andparticipate in crime prevention and community-oriented publicsafety programming that reflects the University's diversepopulation. Additionally, University Police Officers enforce Universityregulations, local ordinances, and state laws. The individual is afirst responder to incidents, accidents, and other emergencies andis responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigationsinto significant and criminal incidents. The individual will work under the direction of a Sergeant,Captain, or Chief of Police. The University Police Department is a 24/7, 365-dayoperation. Therefore, the successful candidate must beable to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtimeshifts, as required. Overtime may be assigned for departmentalneeds and is mandatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direction, provides foot and vehicular patrol to detectsecurity problems, safety hazards, and to provide surveillance foran entire University campus or portion thereof. Complete training and have familiarity with dispatchfunctions. Participate in directed patrol activities to observe and detectunusual activities, circumstances, or violations of the law. Conduct investigations, make arrests, issue summons, enforcelaws and ordinances, provide directions and information. Deter, restrain, and/or arrest individuals attempting toinflict physical harm on themselves or others, or commit criminalacts. Support the University's diversity commitment and strongstudent-centered vision and mission. Maintain radio contact with headquarters/police personnel. When necessary, regulate and control pedestrian and vehiculartraffic to ensure safety and reasonable, rapid movement of trafficwith a minimum of interference. Provide quality customer service. Provide foot or vehicular patrols for the duration of ashift. Provide basic first aid until arrival of local EMS. Maintain knowledge of current state, county & local laws,policies and procedures relevant to the position. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
These positions are open to entry-level applicants OR applicants who possess a current New JerseyBasic Course for Police Officer Certification (formerly known asClass A); OR are a Special Officer Class II (SLEOII), which is eligible for a waiver of training from the BasicCourse for Police Officers; OR have completed theAlternate Route Program for the Basic Course for Police Officers(BCPO). All candidates must meet all conditions as outlined by the NewJersey Police Training Commission licensing requirements.

Police Licensing RulesOverview Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends andholidays, assigned overtime shifts, as required, respond toemergency call-ins as needed, and respond to department call-ins asneeded. Overtime is mandatory. Mental and physical ability to maintain high levels of exertionin times of emergencies. Physical ability to lift and carry suspects, prisoners,victims, and people to safe areas. Ability to safely handle their assigned weapons andsuccessfully qualify at the designated range as required. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communicationskills. A valid driver's license in your state of residence and havehad no serious violations (Type A) within the past five (5) yearsand no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the pastthree (3) years. Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of work and life experience directly relating to: Community service/involvement Interviewing, public speaking, and conflict resolutionskills Problem-solving, using creative methods to resolve issues Multi-cultural work and life experiences Associate's degree, two years of college, trade school, orequivalent education; Bachelor's degree is highly preferred. Higher Education public safety experience is a plus.
