    12/26/2018 CLASS SUMMARY This is professional police work in a municipal police department that is based on trust, credibility, and competency. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations, as well as policy and procedures. Work occasionally involves an element of personal danger which may present itself at any time. Work requires enforcement of the laws and ordinances of the State of Ohio and the City of Hudson while supporting the Constitution of the United States. The Patrol Officer shall set an appropriate example for others, interact with the public, and respond with other public safety agencies in a fast, efficient manner during emergency and non-emergency situations without endangering the life and well-being of others as well as provide information and assistance to the public while exhibiting courtesy, tact, and professionalism at all times while always promoting a positive public image. Work is performed under the general direction and supervision of a Police Sergeant with significant opportunity to exercise independent judgment, self

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares and completes police reports, and testifies in court. Operates a motor vehicle safely and efficiently under, and at times, extremely stressful and hazardous conditions, such as in the case of responding to emergency calls in congested traffic areas or severe weather conditions. Observes and is cognizant of situations and/or conditions brought to the Officer's awareness through the various senses which may require appropriate police action. Communicates verbally and in writing and follows oral and written instructions as provided. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, public officials, representatives from federal, state and local organizations and agencies and the general public.     12/26/2018 Work is frequently performed indoors and outdoors at various locations throughout the city. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, reaching with hands and arms in front of body and overhead, using hands and fingers to operate police vehicles, equipment, firearms, radios, and computers. Work requires appropriate motor skills and corrected vision to adequately grip, control, and aim a firearm, and in the performance of the other essential functions and duties required of a Patrol Officer. Work requires endurance of long periods of exposure to inclement weather and/or oppressive temperatures during times of emergency or crisis. Work requires sufficient strength and agility to react quickly and effectively in emergency situations, and to physically restrain combative persons. Work occasionally exposes employee to dangerous, hazardous and potentially life threatening situations, to blood and body fluids.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Work requires possession of a high school diploma or a GED and the following knowledge, abilities and skills: Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Knowledge of police patrol methods, practices, procedures and techniques with an emphasis on problem solving abilities within the contemporary community policing philosophy. Some knowledge of computers and their application to police work. Ability to exhibit courage and remain calm, regardless of the circumstances the Patrol Officer may be subject to. Ability to use sound tactics and make appropriate prioritized patrol decisions with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and complete a variety of police reports and records. Ability to possess and maintain adequate physical fitness, optimal visual acuity, agility, and mental health as established by the City of Hudson and its Police Department. Skill in the use and care of firearms and other police equipment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, public officials, representatives from federal, state and local organizations and agencies and the general public.
