Job Description

Part-Time Patrol Officer Gettysburg Police Department $25.84 per hour (2026yr) The Borough of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking dedicated and community-focused individuals to join our team as Part-Time Patrol Officers with the Gettysburg Police Department (GPD) who want to make a positive impact in the Borough. Located in a vibrant and historic community, our department is dedicated to delivering high-quality law enforcement services with professionalism, integrity, and respect. Our department is currently composed of 14 full-time sworn officers and 1 civilian staff member. Job Summary We invite you to bring your skills, abilities, and knowledge to be a valued part of our team. The incumbent performs law enforcement and peacekeeping duties. They develop strong relationships with the community, using problem-solving to address concerns. We offer various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Work takes place in both office and field environments, in any weather and at all hours. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have Act 120 (MPOETC) certification or be eligible for certification upon appointment. All applicants must possess a high school diploma or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED) before appointment. Possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment. Must be a U.S. citizen. Any felony conviction is an automatic disqualification. Any criminal activity that would be considered a felony under Pennsylvania law, federal law, or the law of the state in which the activity occurred is a disqualification. All applicants must possess and retain the ability to provide credible testimony in a court of law. All applicants must be able to pass a psychological examination. All applicants must be able to pass a physical examination. Ability to withstand a comprehensive background investigation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential duties are contained within the borough's Essential Functions of a Police Officer, following the Borough of Gettysburg's Civil Service Regulations. A copy can be requested at the borough office. Any single position may not be assigned to all duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all duties that may be assigned. Each employee in this classification may perform the following duties. Patrol assigned areas of the Borough to prevent and detect crime. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Enforce traffic and criminal laws, local ordinances, and Borough regulations. Conduct preliminary investigations, prepare reports, and testify in court as needed. Engage in community policing and public outreach efforts. Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

The ability to work under varying environmental conditions both indoors and outdoors, which may include dust, dirt, fumes, low illumination, poor visibility, noise, etc. Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays as required; Employees may be subject to call to duty as required. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
