Job Description

The Police Officer is responsible for enforcing local and state laws, as well as municipal ordinances related to public safety and welfare. Police Officers perform a wide range of law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigation, and public service functions to protect life and property and maintain order throughout the jurisdiction. Essential Functions Police Officers assigned to this position perform duties that include, but are not limited to:
  • Responding to emergencies and high-risk situations
  • Patrolling assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
  • Apprehending and arresting individuals suspected of criminal activity
  • Conducting preliminary investigations and securing crime scenes
  • Assisting victims and gathering information related to incidents
  • Preparing accurate reports, citations, and legal documentation
  • Testifying in court and presenting evidence when required
  • Maintaining proficiency in firearms, defensive tactics, and driving skills
  • Communicating and coordinating with supervisors, courts, attorneys, and partner agencies
  • Operating and maintaining assigned equipment and vehicles Police Officers must remain knowledgeable of all applicable laws and departmental policies while performing duties in a professional and lawful manner. Additional Responsibilities In addition to essential duties, Police Officers may:
  • Assist with training and mentoring personnel
  • Support other divisions with cases and assignments
  • Provide public safety services at community events
  • Direct traffic and assist with school crossings Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy or ability to obtain certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Minimum age of 21 years Candidates must be able to perform duties in high-risk and high-stress environments. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including:
  • Standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Maintaining visual acuity, depth perception, and situational awareness
  • Operating equipment and vehicles for extended periods Reasonable accommodation may be made for qualified individuals in accordance with applicable laws.
Pay:
$33,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
