City Of Spearfish - Police Officer City of Spearfish Spearfish, SD Posted Date 7/27/2026 Description ~Sign-On Bonus $6,000 plus $500 per month housing allowance for 8 months~ The City of Spearfish is offering a Sign-On Bonus of $6,000 plus $500 per month housing allowance for 8 months for police officers. The City of Spearfish will pay 50% of the Sign-On Bonus no later than the first scheduled payroll date after the employee's hire date with the remainder of the Sign-On Bonus paid on the first scheduled payroll date after the employee's successful completion of the in-training period and requirements outlined in the position description.
Responsibilities:
This position will enforce local, state, and federal laws, prevent and suppress crime and accidents, and promote public safety through community policing principles. This position will be responsible for the investigation of criminal cases as assigned. This is a full-time position.
Requirements:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with a clean driving history. Possession of or ability to readily obtain South Dakota Law Enforcement Certification. Preference will be given to candidates with certification. This position requires availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Police Officer position range: $32.84 - $49.96 Salary 32.84 - 49.96 Hour Field Police Highest Educational Degree Required High school diploma
