Position Summary:

The Town of Unicoi Police Department is seeking a dedicated, community-oriented individual to serve as a Full-Time Police Officer . This position plays a vital role in maintaining public safety, enforcing laws and ordinances, and supporting the quality of life in our small town. The ideal candidate demonstrates integrity, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to community service. If employed, the employee must maintain all professional standards presented in the Town of Unicoi Code of Conduct and standard operating procedures to guide the employee's work.

Key Responsibilities:

Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect crimes and maintain public order. Respond to emergency calls, accidents, disturbances, and other incidents. Enforce local, state, and federal laws. Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, and prepare reports. Provide traffic control and assist with vehicle accidents. Attend court hearings and testify when required. Foster positive relationships with community members and businesses. Assist with town events and special assignments as needed. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies as necessary. Assist the Chief of Police with any other assigned police department related task.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Must be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Tennessee (POST certification). Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid Tennessee driver's license with a clean driving record. Successful completion of background check, psychological evaluation, and drug screening. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a small team. Working knowledge of TIBRS (Tennessee Incident Base Reporting System and TITAN (Tennessee Integrated Traffic Analysis Network) Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years of prior law enforcement experience in a municipal or county agency. Familiarity with small-town policing and community engagement.

Working Conditions:

Full-Time, 40 hour per week shift with the potential for varying shifts and overtime. May involve exposure to dangerous situations and adverse weather. Requires wearing a department issued uniform. Equipment such as, but not limited to, may be operated by the individual: firearms, radio and communications equipment, police vehicles, radar, fingerprinting, pepper spray, taser, etc. The role of a police officer is a demanding job physically and mentally. The candidate, during the course of duty, may have to run, jump, bend, climb, crawl, squat, lift heavy objects, etc. on a daily basis. Applications will be received until September 18, 2026.
