Job Description
Summary:
The position involves performing police patrol duties for the City of Blanco, responding to various calls related to traffic, law enforcement, crimes against persons or property, and other assistance/enforcement activities of the Blanco Police Department. The role seeks self-motivated applicants who strive for excellence, maintaining professional and effective interactions with the public, aiming to uphold the health, safety, and welfare of the community. The Blanco Police Department is continuously striving for improvement and ensures the city of Blanco remains the safest place to live, work and visit.Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and other significant responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Preserving order, protecting life and property, enforcing laws and municipal ordinances, investigating and preventing crime, and providing professional and efficient service to the City of Blanco. Supporting and promoting the City's community policing philosophy, crime prevention, and related programs. Upholding the highest standards of performance and integrity for the Blanco Police Department. Adhering to departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and maintaining all departmental records, books, files, property, evidence, and equipment. Operating within a chain of command with clearly defined communication channels, responsibility, accountability, and authority. Ensuring all Police Department equipment, vehicles, and office/work areas are well-maintained and clean. Staying current with applicable City ordinances, state and federal laws, case law, and advancements in law enforcement methods and techniques. Demonstrating professionalism and teamwork in public safety, law enforcement, crime prevention, traffic safety, and control. Establishing and maintaining effective public relations between the Blanco Police Department and the community to foster a positive and professional image. Fostering cooperative working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, City officials, and other City departments. Following proper procedures for investigations, reports, evidence handling, and other police operations. Performing other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Requirements Must be TCOLE certified or have the ability to obtain certification prior to hire date Combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties described. Possession of a valid Texas driver s license.Qualifications:

Modern principles, practices, and techniques of police administration, organization, and operations. Community policing techniques and philosophies. Crime prevention, criminal investigation, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, patrol procedures, traffic control and safety, accident investigation, records management, and the care and custody of persons and property. Relevant City, county, state, and federal laws and regulations. Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition. Police Department policies, procedures, and emergency response plans. Equipment, materials, and supplies used in police services. Departmental record keeping.Skill in:
Operating a motor vehicle and other police communications and emergency equipment, including mobile and portable radios, sirens, emergency lighting, and computer terminals. Using department-approved or issued firearms, including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and qualifying. Utilizing various law enforcement tools and equipment, such as handheld radar, chemical weapons, batons, handcuffs, first-aid equipment, fingerprinting equipment, evidence collection tools, and computer hardware and software.Ability to:
Prepare complete and accurate incident reports and correspondence. Communicate effectively and convincingly with the public and colleagues. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with minimal supervision Work harmoniously and cooperatively with the public, co-workers, City Administration, City Council, and other officials. Perform under pressure and stressful situations Understand, follow, and deliver written and oral instructions. Exhibit leadership, persuasion, patience, perseverance, thoroughness, firmness, flexibility, understanding, compassion, and independent decision-making. Enforce laws effectively to promote and manage public safety. Utilize physical force and/or deadly physical force in accordance with established policies, procedures, and state/case law regarding the "Continuum of Force" standards. Coordinate Police Department activities with other City departments or jurisdictions. Perform all duties typically associated with a Patrol Officer.
