This position serves criminal warrants and civil process, serves as a court bailiff, provides court and school security, conducts patrol duties, and performs specialized duties as assigned. Serves civil process papers, including citations, summonses, subpoenas, writs, forcible detainers, and restraining and protective orders. Serves misdemeanor and felony warrants, apprehends individuals in accordance with applicable laws and procedures, and provides arrest assistance and backup support to other law enforcement agencies. Reviews civil process papers and warrants to verify that all required information is accurate, complete, and in compliance with applicable requirements. Serves as bailiff during court proceedings, introduces the judge, maintains courtroom security and order, and ensures the safe custody and control of prisoners. Enforces traffic laws, issues citations, and directs traffic as necessary. Transports prisoners. Assists motorists experiencing vehicle breakdowns, traffic-related incidents, or other roadside emergencies. Patrols assigned areas to prevent, detect, and deter criminal activity and maintain public safety. Assists other law enforcement agency personnel as needed. Participates in specialized task forces and assignments as directed. Performs any other duties assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of civil and criminal legal processes and procedures. Knowledge of departmental and county policies and procedures and federal, state, and local guidelines. Knowledge of county geography, including major roads, streets, landmarks, and key locations. Skill in the safe and effective use of firearms and restraint equipment. Skill in operating emergency vehicles. Skill in analyzing problems and developing and implementing effective solutions. Skill in preparing clear, concise, and accurate administrative reports. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Must have a current and valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) License. Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of related criminal and civil service, security, and law enforcement duties. Potentially dangerous situations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to serve criminal and civil papers and to enforce laws. Success in this position contributes to efficient court processes and the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws.
