Job Description

Police Officer Position Summary:
Under direct/indirect supervision, enforce the law, provide service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses and arrest offenders. Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety and welfare of patients, staff, visitors and all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of the Ector County Hospital District dba Medical Center Health System. Exercise independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Directors for the Ector County Hospital District and the Chief of Police departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
A.
Education:
1. High School graduate or equivalent upon hire or transfer to the department. 2. Required to hold current Texas Peace Officer License through TCOLE. Valid Texas Class C driver s license required. 3. Must be 21 years of age or older 4. Must be able to obtain Mental Health Peace Officer Certification within eighteen (18) months of employment with Ector County Hospital District Police Department. 5. Must be able to acquire and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 18 months (prerequisite for Mental Health Peace Officer Certification).
Training and Experience:
1. Must be able to use a computer, two-way radio, and telephone. Must be able to qualify for Texas Motor Vehicle Insurance. 2. Must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law. 3. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. 4. Be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Ability to perform 1. Must have visual, auditory and olfactory acuity. 2. Requires lots of standing, walking and climbing. 3. Must be able to work under stressful conditions with varying work hours and shifts. 4. May require heavy lifting B. May encounter exposure to infectious diseases
