Job Description

Police Officer (Certified) : Applications are being accepted for the position of Certified Police Officer from candidates that are Virginia Certified POLICE OFFICERS or eligible for certification through the Crater Pre-Employment Program (CPREP) at Crater Criminal Justice Academy.
- Enforces the law, criminal investigations, traffic regulation and control.
- Provides emergency and other services.
- Responds to and investigates criminal activity.
- Performs patrol duties.
- Responds to calls for service.
- Serves warrants and assists in civil matters.
- Develops, distributes, and files reports.
- Operates electronic equipment in the enforcement of traffic laws.
- Testifies in court.
- Addresses public inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications All potential applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Virginia certified POLICE OFFICER or eligible for certification through participation in the CPREP program at Crater Criminal Justice Academy.
- Be a citizen of the United States of America ( VA Code 15.2-1705 section i )
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Graduated from an accredited high school or GED certificate; college coursework in criminal justice or police science is desirable but not required.
- At least 3 years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess a valid Virginia operators license
- In good physical condition as determined by a physician
- Have corrected vision of 20/20 or better in each eye
- Of good character and reputation
- Have not been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Virginia ( VA Code 15.2-1705 section vii )
- Not have produced a positive result on a pre-employment drug screening ( VA Code 15.2-1705 section viii )
- Successfully pass all phases of our police selection process, which will include a written examination, physical agility test, extensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological screening, medical and drug screening.
- Ability to obtain appropriate public safety certifications within a specified period of time.
