Huntsville, Alabama, United States About the Opportunity We are currently seeking a Family Law Litigation Paralegal I to support attorneys in managing domestic relations matters from start to finish. This opportunity is ideal for a highly organized and detail-oriented legal professional with strong communication skills and an interest in family law litigation. The position provides an opportunity to work closely with attorneys on divorce, custody, child support, and other domestic relations matters while taking an active role in case management, document preparation, client communication, and litigation support. Position Overview The Family Law Litigation Paralegal I will assist attorneys throughout the lifecycle of family law matters. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The Paralegal will maintain and manage a caseload of family law matters, monitor deadlines, regularly review case files, and identify next steps needed to keep matters progressing. The Paralegal will communicate with attorneys regarding case status and strategy and will contribute to moving cases forward efficiently. Responsibilities will include maintaining organized and up-to-date case files, drafting legal documents, preparing financial affidavits and other required family law forms, reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness, and filing documents through electronic filing systems. The Paralegal will also serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing timely updates, responding to inquiries, maintaining professional and empathetic communication, and following up regarding documents, deadlines, and case status. Additional responsibilities will include coordinating hearings, meetings, and mediations, tracking incoming and outgoing documents, and assisting with client intake and onboarding as needed. Compensation and Benefits $35,000-$65,000 annually, depending on experience Short Term Disability Long Term Disability Basic Term Life BCBS Health BCBS Dental BCBS Vision 401k 401k match Paid Time Off Holiday Pay Bereavement Professional Organizations (AAPi) Qualifications At least 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or secretary in a family law firm , or 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal in another practice area Strong understanding of legal terminology and court procedures Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and competing priorities Proficiency with legal software such as Clio, Microsoft Office, and electronic filing systems Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and commitment to client service Ability to understand case status, identify next steps, and communicate effectively with attorneys Work Environment This position operates in a fast-paced family law setting where priorities may shift quickly. The role requires balancing multiple cases while maintaining a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and client care. Performance Expectations The Family Law Litigation Paralegal I is expected to be proactive, detail-oriented, and engaged in their work. The successful candidate should not simply complete assigned tasks, but understand their cases, communicate effectively, and take ownership in helping move matters toward resolution. Case Management and Productivity At least 93% of assigned tasks completed on time Participate in at least 3 case strategy meetings with attorneys per month Demonstrate understanding of assigned case status and next steps Proactively assist with case management by staying aware of case status, identifying next steps, and engaging with attorneys to move cases forward Demonstrate efficient use of time while maintaining quality of work Client Communication Provide same-day responses to client communications, with a goal of responding within 4-6 business hours At least 90% follow-through on client commitments Ensure zero clients go without contact for a 45-day period Provide proactive updates and maintain consistent, professional, and empathetic communication with clients Quality of Work At least 87% first-pass approval rate on drafted documents No more than 10 avoidable errors per quarter Demonstrate consistent attention to detail in all work product Produce accurate and reliable work with minimal revisions Filing Accuracy and Error Prevention Zero failed electronic filings Zero filing errors requiring a motion to correct a clerical error Review filings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before submission Billing and Productivity Average of 6 billable hours per 8-hour workday Accurately track and record billable time Maintain a consistent level of billable work aligned with firm expectations Demonstrate efficient use of time while maintaining quality and accuracy Engagement and Initiative Come prepared for attorney meetings with sufficient knowledge of assigned cases Identify appropriate next steps and ask meaningful questions Demonstrate initiative beyond assigned tasks Take ownership of assigned matters and contribute to case strategy and progress Proactively identify opportunities to help move matters toward resolution How to Apply Interested candidates are invited to submit their resume for confidential consideration.
