Mon - Thur, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., with the possibility of additional hours

Chico, California | In-person | Part-Time About Murphy Family Law, PC Murphy Family Law, PC is a boutique family law firm in Chico, California, dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality legal services to individuals and families navigating some of life's most difficult transitions. Our firm provides experienced family law representation as well as mediation and alternative dispute resolution services. We intentionally maintain a manageable caseload so our clients receive focused, personalized attention. We are a small, collaborative team that values professionalism, reliability, compassion, and attention to detail. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and dependable Part-Time Family Law Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have several years of paralegal or comparable legal support experience, with California family law experience strongly preferred . This position will work closely with our attorney, mediator, and office staff and will play an important role in the day-to-day management of our cases. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple deadlines, comfortable working independently, and committed to providing excellent client service. Paralegal certification is not required , although formal paralegal education or certification is a plus. This is an in-office position in Chico, California. Candidates who live in the surrounding communities are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to our Chico office for their scheduled shifts. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain organized electronic and physical case files. Monitor case deadlines, hearings, filing deadlines, and other important dates. Prepare, format, proofread, and organize pleadings, declarations, discovery, correspondence, exhibits, and other legal documents under attorney direction. Assist with preparation of California Judicial Council family law forms. Prepare and electronically file court documents and maintain conformed copies. Assist with discovery, including preparation, organization, service, and tracking. Organize financial records, client documents, exhibits, and other case materials. Assist with hearing, settlement conference, mediation, and trial preparation. Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, process servers, and other professionals. Obtain and follow up on documents and information requested from clients. Maintain accurate case notes and information within the firm's case management system. Assist with scheduling hearings, appointments, and other case-related matters. Coordinate service of legal documents as directed. Assist with billing, timekeeping, correspondence, and general office duties as needed. Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive family law matters. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required/Preferred:
Several years of paralegal or comparable legal support experience preferred. California family law experience strongly preferred. Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Professional, dependable, and team-oriented. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Strong computer and technology skills. Experience with Clio or other legal case management software is a plus. Familiarity with California family law procedures and Judicial Council forms is a plus. Paralegal certificate or formal paralegal education is a plus, but not required . Reliable transportation and the ability to consistently commute to our Chico office.
