Job Description

Job Summary In-house counsel role providing support across the Legal Department of a growing financial services company focused on insurance, retirement and investment management. The individual will initially focus on developing a deep knowledge of the company's products, services and operations with a focus on managing claims, litigation and regulatory matters. This position offers a tremendous growth opportunity for an attorney interested in joining a high-performing team and building a career in financial services. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the life insurance industry (private practice or in-house) Admission to the Connecticut Bar Experience or demonstrated Interest in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation required Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment Strong work ethic coupled with a proactive growth mindset Humble but not passive. Confident but not arrogant Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into practical guidance Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, with a strong sense of ownership and professional judgment Benefits and Compensation Nassau offers medical, dental, vision, and dependent life insurance benefits to employees' spouses and dependent children.
