Job Description

Our client is looking for an Associate to join a growing boutique law practice in Wilmington, Delaware. This role is ideal for an attorney who wants to build long-term depth in elder law, estate planning, and special needs planning while working closely with clients and families on complex, sensitive matters. The position offers meaningful exposure to sophisticated legal work, direct client interaction, and close collaboration with an experienced team in an in-office environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee estate and trust administration matters through each stage of the post-death process, ensuring files move forward accurately and efficiently.
  • Advise individuals and families on estate planning options and prepare tailored documents that reflect their personal, financial, and long-term goals.
  • Lead client consultations, document review sessions, execution meetings, and family discussions with clarity and care.
  • Create planning solutions for clients with disabilities, including the development and implementation of special needs trusts and related strategies.
  • Analyze public benefits issues, trust revisions, and other complex planning questions through thorough legal research and written analysis.
  • Manage uncontested guardianship matters and prepare powers of attorney and related documents to support personal and financial decision-making.
  • Guide families of individuals with special needs on legal considerations connected to adulthood planning and future care arrangements.
  • Counsel clients on long-term care Medicaid planning and asset preservation approaches in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain an active workload that includes legal drafting, client service, case management, ongoing development, and coordination with support staff and firm leadership.
Our client
  • Active admission to the Delaware Bar is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a demanding legal practice setting.
  • Demonstrated strength in legal research, analytical writing, and detail-focused correspondence.
  • Prior experience working directly with clients in a consultative legal environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, meetings, and multiple active matters effectively.
  • Collaborative approach to working with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative team members.
  • Interest in developing advanced knowledge in elder law, estate planning, and special needs planning, including pursuing Certified Elder Law Attorney credentials when eligible.
  • Ability to work onsite in Wilmington, Delaware.
