The Charlotte County Attorney's Office has an immediate opening for a dedicated and skilled professional to serve as an Assistant County Attorney (ACA) or Senior Assistant County Attorney (SACA). Interested ACA applicants must be licensed to practice in Florida and have at least three (3) years of relevant experience, and SACA applicants must demonstrate at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in city or county local government law. The ideal candidate will be certified in City, County and Local Government Law. The Candidate will be able to perform complex, professional legal work in providing comprehensive legal services to the Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator, and all County departments. This position involves significant responsibility and independent judgment in drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, and other legal documents; conducting in-depth legal research; and preparing clear, well-reasoned legal opinions that guide County operations and policy decisions. The Attorney will handle a wide variety of complex legal matters within established policies, exercising considerable initiative while delivering sound, effective counsel. Work is reviewed through conferences, observation, evaluation of reports, and analysis of results. The role also requires exceptional customer service skills, including responsive communication, problem-solving, and complaint resolution across all forms of communication, ensuring professional and effective support to County leadership, departments, boards, and agencies. Salary is based on experience.
Education & Credentials That Power This Role Education and Experience:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school Three (3) years of experience
Preferred:
Governmental law experience Licenses and/or
Certificates:
Must maintain a valid driver's license. Active member in good standing with the Florida BAR. Your Purpose & Day-To-Day Journey As an Assistant County Attorney, you can expect a dynamic and intellectually engaging environment where your legal expertise directly supports the operations and governance of Charlotte County. In this role, you will work closely with County leadership and departments, applying your knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures to provide sound, strategic legal guidance. Your days will include drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, and other key legal documents that shape County operations, as well as conducting thorough legal and in-depth research to develop well-reasoned opinions for County departments, boards, and agencies. You will rely on modern office practices and technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related software, to efficiently manage complex legal matters. This position offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, while performing related professional duties that support the County's mission and commitment to public service.
