A well-established law firm is looking to add an experienced Insurance Coverage Attorney to its Chicago practice. This is a dedicated insurance coverage position representing insurance carriers in complex coverage matters. The attorney will have meaningful responsibility for coverage analysis, policy interpretation, coverage opinions and coverage litigation, along with direct interaction with carrier clients and claims professionals. This is a strong opportunity for an attorney who enjoys the analytical side of insurance coverage but also wants to be involved in the litigation when coverage disputes escalate. What You'll Do Analyze commercial insurance policies and evaluate complex coverage issues Prepare substantive coverage opinions and legal analyses Draft reservation of rights letters and other coverage correspondence Advise carrier clients regarding the duty to defend, duty to indemnify, exclusions and other coverage issues Handle declaratory judgment actions and other insurance coverage litigation Research and brief complex insurance law and policy interpretation issues Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, briefs and appellate filings Work directly with claims professionals and insurance carrier representatives Manage matters independently while working closely with the broader coverage team Experience We're Looking For J.D. from an accredited law school Illinois Bar admission and good standing 4+ years of experience representing insurance carriers in coverage matters Strong experience with insurance coverage analysis and policy interpretation Experience drafting coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters Experience with declaratory judgment or other coverage litigation Excellent legal research, writing and analytical skills Ability to independently manage matters and communicate directly with clients Preferred Experience Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: Commercial General Liability (CGL) Professional Liability Property Coverage First-Party Property Third-Party Liability Bad Faith Litigation Excess and Umbrella Coverage Coverage Appeals Why This Opportunity This is a chance to build on an established insurance coverage practice while handling sophisticated matters for insurance carrier clients.
