The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience working in family law and be comfortable independently managing day-to-day responsibilities on divorce, parentage, allocation of parental responsibilities, child support, maintenance, and post-decree matters. We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment. Responsibilities Assist attorney with all stages of family law matters, from initial client intake through resolution of the case. Prepare and organize discovery requests and responses, including interrogatories, requests to produce, requests to admit, financial affidavits, and supporting financial documentation. Review discovery responses and financial documents for completeness and identify missing documents, deficiencies, and necessary follow-up discovery. Organize, summarize, and maintain financial records, including bank statements, tax returns, paystubs, credit card statements, business records, and other financial documents. Prepare discovery deficiency correspondence and assist with motions to compel and other discovery-related pleadings. Draft pleadings, motions, notices, subpoenas, proposed orders, correspondence, and other legal documents for attorney review. Maintain case files, calendars, court deadlines, discovery deadlines, and attorney task lists. Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other professionals involved in cases. Assist attorney with preparation for court hearings, depositions, mediations, pretrial conferences, and trials. File pleadings and other documents through Illinois electronic filing systems. Obtain and organize exhibits and assist with trial and hearing preparation. Provide regular updates to attorney regarding case status, upcoming deadlines, outstanding discovery, and client issues. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience as a family law paralegal . Strong knowledge of the discovery process and experience preparing, reviewing, organizing, and managing discovery. Experience handling Illinois family law matters strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to independently manage deadlines and prioritize multiple assignments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional and comfortable communicating directly with clients. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), PDF software, electronic filing systems, and legal case management software. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and other staff members. Spanish or Arabic language skills are preferred but not required. We value someone who anticipates deadlines, follows up on outstanding discovery, communicates effectively with clients, identifies potential problems, and helps move cases toward resolution. Strong discovery skills are particularly important for this position. The ideal candidate should be comfortable reviewing large volumes of financial documents, identifying missing information, preparing discovery deficiencies, maintaining organized discovery records, and assisting attorneys in preparing cases for settlement or trial.
