Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Attorney/Lawyer to support a busy defense practice in Palos Heights, Illinois. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone in litigation who is confident preparing written advocacy, analyzing legal issues, and managing defense matters in both state and federal venues. The role focuses on civil litigation work with an emphasis on insurance defense, and offers the opportunity to contribute to cases involving municipalities and law enforcement-related matters.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare persuasive briefs, motions, and summary judgment filings for civil litigation matters.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and apply findings to support defense strategies and case development.
  • Manage discovery-related tasks, including reviewing records, organizing evidence, and assisting with responses.
  • Support attorneys with trial preparation by assembling materials, outlining arguments, and coordinating case documentation.
  • Handle defense files involving insurance-related claims and other civil disputes from a litigation perspective.
  • Work on matters pending in federal court and Cook County Circuit Court, ensuring filings and procedures meet court requirements.
  • Provide case status support when court appearances are needed, including attending routine updates or procedural hearings.
  • Contribute to matters involving municipalities, police departments, and related federal civil rights issues when applicable. Requirements
  • Active attorney license required.
  • At least 3 years of experience practicing civil litigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft motions, briefs, and summary judgment pleadings.
  • Prior experience handling matters in federal court and Cook County Circuit Court.
  • Background in insurance defense or other defense-side litigation work.
  • Strong legal research and written advocacy skills.
  • Experience with discovery and trial preparation activities.
  • Federal civil rights experience is preferred but not required.
The pay range for this position is $50 to $55. Benefits available to contract/contract professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
