Summary of Duties and Responsibilities The Child Support Enforcement Divisionof the Illinois Attorney General's Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Rock Island office. The position offers substantial courtroom and litigation experience representing state agencies in courts throughout the region. Assistant Attorneys General in the Division primarily represent the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services in child support establishment, modification, and enforcement proceedings. Attorneys independently manage an assigned caseload, appear regularly in circuit courts in multiple counties, negotiate resolutions, prepare and respond to pleadings and motions, conduct legal research, and litigate contested evidentiary hearings. The Division also represents the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services in other civil matters involving public benefit programs and the recovery of funds owed to the State. Depending upon assignment, these matters may include administrative review actions, personal injury and estate lien recoveries, public assistance recovery matters, and other state and federal litigation.
Qualifications:
The position requires an attorney who can effectively manage a substantial and varied caseload, exercise sound judgment, work independently, and handle multiple matters during busy court calls. Strong litigation, legal research, writing, negotiation, and organizational skills are essential. The attorney also must communicate effectively and maintain productive working relationships with office colleagues, judges and other court personnel, agency representatives, opposing counsel, litigants, and members of the public. Regular travel to assigned counties is required.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois at the time of application. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated interest in courtroom work, excellent research and writing skills, sound judgment, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service. Litigation or courtroom experience is preferred but not required.

Salary:
