Century Aluminum, Chicago, IL Looking to move beyond pure contracting work and serve as a true business partner? Century Aluminum, the largest producer of primary aluminum in the United States, is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its legal team in Chicago. This is a highly visible, business-facing role supporting a global industrial company with operations across the U.S., Iceland, the Netherlands, and Jamaica. The Senior Counsel will work closely with leaders across procurement, sales, operations, finance, IT, and other business functions, advising on a broad range of commercial agreements and strategic initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, solutions-oriented lawyer who enjoys being close to the business, navigating complex commercial issues, and helping internal clients move key priorities forward. Century is also involved in one of the most significant U.S. aluminum manufacturing growth initiatives in decades, partnering to develop the first new primary aluminum production plant in the United States since 1980. What You'll Do Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including supply, procurement, sales, services, logistics, transportation, warehousing, technology, software, and IT agreements. Advise internal stakeholders on legal and commercial risks, with a focus on practical, business-oriented solutions. Partner cross-functionally with procurement, sales, operations, finance, IT, HR, and other teams to support transactions from initiation through execution. Support strategic transactions, partnerships, and other commercial initiatives. Help improve contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and legal workflows. What We're Looking For J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership. At least 5 years of relevant legal experience gained at a law firm and/or in-house legal department. Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements. Excellent judgment, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Experience in manufacturing, industrials, metals, mining, energy, or another asset-intensive industry is helpful, but not required.
