Immigration Attorney Description of Position:

La Casa de Amistad, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and legal advocacy for immigrant communities, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Immigration Attorney to join our growing legal team. The Immigration Attorney will report to the Director/Attorney and will be responsible for offering legal representation and counsel to clients navigating the complexities of immigration law. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who is passionate about immigrant rights and social justice.

Responsibilities:

Legal Representation:

Provide expert legal advice and representation to clients in various immigration matters including, but not limited to, removal defense, asylum, family-based immigration, and naturalization.

Case Management:

Manage a full caseload, including the preparation and filing of applications, petitions, and motions; attend interviews and hearings; and maintain comprehensive and accurate case files.

Client Interaction:

Conduct consultations with potential clients to assess their legal needs, provide clear explanations of legal processes, and develop case strategies.

Advocacy:

Advocate for clients before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant agencies.

Legal Research and Writing:

Stay current with changes in immigration law and policy, and conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation. Draft legal documents, briefs, and appeals as necessary.

Community Engagement:

Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to promote awareness of immigrant rights and legal resources. Participate in outreach and educational events to support immigrant communities.

Supervision and Training:

Provide guidance and mentorship to legal staff, including paralegals and interns. Assist in the development of training materials and programs for the team.

Reporting:

Prepare and submit reports on case outcomes, client statistics, and other relevant metrics to the Director of Immigration Legal Services and the CEO.

Education and Experience:

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Licensure:

Admitted to practice law in the U.S. and in good standing .

Experience:

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in immigration law. Will consider recent law school graduates with clinical experience. Experience working with underserved or immigrant populations is highly desirable.

Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Proficiency in Spanish is necessary and in other languages is a plus.
