You will provide expert guidance on insuring real estate titles for properties in Maryland and other states. You will assist title insurance agents with compliance with underwriting standards, guidelines and applicable laws and regulations. You will also be involved in educational seminars and publishing bulletins providing guidance on underwriting issues. You will resolve claims on policies and and work with outside attorneys where a claim involves litigation. You must be familiar with real property law as well as laws and practices impacting titles to real property and have a minimum of five years experience in real estate and title law. Must be an excellent communicator and a team player. Responsibilities Review, analyze and provide guidance on insuring real property titles. Review and resolve claims submissions working with claimants, insureds, attorneys and issuing agents, Draft, review, and negotiate policy language, and endorsements with agents, attorneys, customers and lenders. Provide legal analysis on complex claims and work with retained attorneys in claims involving litigation Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to stay current on relevant statutes, case law, and industry regulations across diverse practice areas including real property, estate planning, bankruptcy, probate, marital relations and more Prepare for and participate in court depositions, trial preparations, and litigation strategy sessions related to claims litigation Advise management on regulatory and statutory developments Communicate effectively with insureds, management, attorneys and co-workers regarding strategic options, settlement negotiations, or claim resolutions while maintaining high standards of service to insureds and agents Experience Proven experience in real estate and title law, legal research, contract drafting, negotiations and litigation Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of laws in multiple jurisdictions and in multiple practice areas such as real property, bankruptcy, probate and marital relations. Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successful client or internal stakeholder advocacy Familiarity with legal case management systems and research platforms like LexisNexis and Westlaw Excellent writing skills for drafting bulletins, legal documents including motions, pleadings, policies or reports Ability to handle complex procedural issues with precision while managing multiple cases efficiently Prior experience providing underwriting guidance or handling title insurance claims.
