About the Firm The Law Office of Jacob M. Chinnery, LLC d/b/a Cardinal Law is a growing multi-practice firm headquartered in Crawford County, MO. We are looking for an Associate Attorney to join our team in Springfield, MO. We represent clients across Crawford, Franklin, Washington, Phelps, Gasconade, and neighboring counties along the I-44 corridor in personal injury, family law, criminal defense, workers' compensation, estate planning, insurance disputes, civil litigation, and civil cases for survivors of sexual abuse. We built this practice to bring serious, well-resourced representation to a region that has too often had to settle for less. Our attorneys try cases, argue motions, and will take matters through appeal when warranted. We move fast, write well, and hold ourselves to a high standard. The Role We are hiring a Staff Attorney to join our litigation and transactional team. You will manage a full caseload from intake through resolution, working closely with the managing attorney and alongside other Staff Attorneys. Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement demands, and trial materials Conducting client intakes, depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials Appearing in circuit and associate divisions throughout east-central and south-central Missouri Handling estate planning and transactional matters, including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments Developing subject-matter depth in one or more of our priority practice areas (family law and estate planning, personal injury and workers' compensation, or sexual abuse civil litigation and insurance disputes) Contributing to firm growth through community involvement, referral relationships, and client development Qualifications Required J.D. from an accredited law school Active license in good standing with the Missouri Bar (or eligibility for reciprocity / admission within six months) Strong legal research and writing ability — we will ask for a writing sample and we will read it carefully Willingness to travel regularly to courthouses along the I-44 corridor and in surrounding counties Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms (Westlaw or Fastcase/vLex) Clean disciplinary record Preferred 1-7 years of post-bar litigation or transactional experience (we will also strongly consider newer attorneys with exceptional writing and demonstrated initiative, as well as more seasoned candidates seeking autonomy and trial work) Prior experience in family law, estate planning, personal injury, or workers' compensation Familiarity with Missouri Rules of Civil Procedure, the Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct, and local practices in Crawford, Franklin, Washington, Phelps, or Gasconade counties Experience with Clio or a comparable case management platform Spanish fluency What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with experience Paid time off and paid holidays Firm-paid bar dues, CLE, malpractice coverage, and professional memberships Real mentorship and real trial opportunities — not years of document review before you see a courtroom A clear path to senior or partner-track responsibility for the right candidate A collegial small-firm environment with significant responsibility from day one Genuine work-life balance in a community where commutes are measured in minutes, not hours How to Apply Send the following to jchinnery@molaw.org with the subject line "Staff Attorney Application — [Your Name]": Cover letter describing your interest and the practice areas that most appeal to you Resume Questions?
