Job Description
The Adams County Public Defender's Office is dedicated to providing competent, effective, and ethical legal representation to indigent clients who are unable to afford private counsel in certain cases when life or liberty issues are at stake. Both entry level and experienced attorneys will be considered. Our office primarily represents indigent clients on felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, mental health proceedings, and limited paternity and child support matters. The Adams County Public Defender's Office in Hastings, Nebraska has an opening for a Deputy Public Defender. Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association is required. Our office is committed to providing top-notch representation to indigent clients on felony, misdemeanor, mental health and certain child support/paternity cases as assigned by the courts. Our current team consists of two skilled attorneys, and we are looking to add another aspiring attorney to our team. Both entry level and experienced attorneys are encouraged to apply. Criminal experience is preferred, but not mandatory. This position provides significant trial experience, which is particularly valuable to new graduates as well as seasoned attorneys. Starting salary is $88,000.00 to $105,000.00 per year depending on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is included with this position.
