We are looking for New Jersey attorneys who want additional litigation matters and court-appearance opportunities without having to independently develop the underlying client pipeline, investigation, document preparation and litigation support infrastructure. This opportunity may be appropriate for an experienced litigator, solo practitioner, small firm, or a newer attorney who is comfortable appearing in court and wants additional supervised litigation experience. What Local Counsel May Handle Depending on the individual matter and agreed scope: Enter an appearance as authorized New Jersey counsel Attend case-management conferences and court hearings Attend motion hearings and other required appearances Confer with opposing counsel Participate in settlement conferences and negotiations when authorized Review pleadings, motions and supporting documents before filing Review New Jersey procedural requirements and local court rules Coordinate with lead litigation counsel regarding case strategy Execute or file documents when required of New Jersey counsel Communicate with the client regarding matters within Local Counsel's assigned scope Assist with additional appearances or litigation assignments by separate agreement Extensive Litigation Support Local Counsel is not expected to build each matter from scratch. Our litigation support structure may provide substantial assistance with: Client intake and document collection Loan and property-document review Factual investigation Chronologies and case summaries Legal research Initial drafting of pleadings and moving papers Discovery support Opposition and reply drafting support Exhibits and supporting documentation Settlement analysis and proposed resolution structures Coordination with experienced litigation attorneys All legal work remains subject to appropriate attorney review, professional judgment, applicable court rules and the attorney's independent ethical obligations. Attorney Requirements Currently admitted to practice law in New Jersey and in good standing Able and willing to enter appearances when appropriate Professional liability coverage preferred Reliable availability for scheduled court appearances Strong professional communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with lead counsel, clients and litigation-support personnel Comfortable independently evaluating the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with each engagement Civil-litigation experience preferred but not mandatory for every assignment Experience involving any of the following is particularly helpful: Residential foreclosure Real estate litigation Consumer defense Mortgage servicing disputes Bankruptcy-related litigation Eviction / landlord-tenant litigation Emergency applications or injunctive relief Settlement negotiations Compensation Compensation is established attorney-to-attorney based upon the scope and complexity of each engagement. An initial engagement may pay up to $2,500 for three local-counsel court appearances, with additional compensation available when a matter requires expanded appearances, motion work, discovery, negotiation, trial preparation or other substantive services. Any attorney fee arrangement, division of responsibility and client participation will be documented and handled in accordance with applicable Rules of Professional Conduct and client-consent requirements.
