The City of Defiance is seeking a qualified and motivated attorney to join its legal team and handle a diverse municipal legal portfolio. This position provides vital legal counsel to city officials, represents the municipality in criminal and civil matters, and ensures city operations align with local, state, and federal laws. Essential Duties Prosecute traffic offenses and criminal misdemeanor cases in Municipal Court. Represent the State of Ohio during applicable stages of felony cases before the Municipal Court. Assist in representing the City in civil litigation, labor and employment matters, and other legal matters assigned by the City Law Director. Research legal issues and prepare briefs, memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Communicate professionally and build effective working relationships with colleagues, opposing counsel, crime victims, and the public. Qualifications A law degree with experience practicing law. An active license to practice law in Ohio and good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio. Strong legal research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Municipal law, prosecution, or civil litigation experience is preferred. Compensation and benefits The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $88,000, based on qualifications and experience.
