Job Overview Morrisson Law is growing and seeking an associate attorney to join our criminal defense team. We are looking for candidates with 0-2 years of experience, with consideration provided for internships, externships, and clerkships. Morrisson law represents clients charged with criminal offenses under State Law primarily in Clackamas County but could be anywhere in the State of Oregon. Our criminal practice is fast-paced, varied, and with regular court appearances in circuit and municipal courts. Successful associates should have solid research and writing skills and be comfortable speaking in court. This is an in-office position. Oregon State Bar admission is mandatory. Hire is contingent on interview with Morrisson Law and the Clackamas County Indigent Defense Corporation (CIDC). Duties Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategies across various practice areas. Draft and review legal documents including contracts, pleadings, motions, and client correspondence with precision and clarity. Assist in trial preparation by organizing case files, preparing exhibits, and coordinating depositions. Represent clients in court depositions and support litigation efforts in general & commercial litigation cases. Provide legal counsel on estate planning, employment law, personal injury law, landord-tenant issues, and procedural law matters. Negotiate settlements and legal terms on behalf of clients while maintaining professional advocacy standards. Manage multiple cases efficiently through effective legal case management practices and regular communication with clients. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; admission to the state bar is required. Strong research skills with proficiency in LexisNexis and Westlaw platforms. Excellent legal writing and drafting abilities with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to prepare for trial including court depositions and motion filings. Effective negotiation skills coupled with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to clients. Familiarity with procedural laws and experience managing multiple cases simultaneously within a busy legal environment. Prior experience in a law office setting is preferred; strong organizational skills are essential for success.
