Job Description

Associate Attorney - Labor & EmploymentPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join our Labor & Employment practice. The ideal candidate will provide litigation and counseling support to employers on a broad range of workplace matters, including wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, labor relations, and collective bargaining-related issues. This role focuses on delivering strategic legal advice, managing cases from intake through resolution, and representing clients in administrative agencies, arbitration, and court proceedings.

Key ResponsibilitiesManage a caseload of labor and employment matters, including investigations, pleadings, discovery, motions, and trial preparation.

Provide counseling to employers on compliance with federal and state employment laws, policies, and best practices.

Represent clients before administrative agencies and tribunals, including EEOC and state human relations commissions, and in court and arbitration proceedings.

Prepare and respond to charges and complaints filed with agencies (e.g., EEOC, PHRC), draft position statements, and coordinate responses to subpoenas and agency investigations.

Handle labor relations matters, including grievances, arbitration (including Act 111 matters where applicable), collective bargaining support, and union-related disputes.

Conduct witness interviews and internal investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment, or misconduct, and prepare clear, practical investigation reports and remedial recommendations.

Draft and review employment agreements, separation agreements, employee handbooks, policies, and other employment-related documents.

Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategy, attend client meetings, and deliver clear, practical legal advice to HR and management teams.

Maintain accurate matter files, billing records, and case status updates, and meet firm and client billing targets and deadlines.

Stay current on developments in labor and employment law and provide training or presentations to clients as needed.

QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in which the firm practices.2+ years of substantive litigation and counseling experience in labor and employment law (or equivalent experience demonstrating relevant skills).Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws, and practical experience with employee relations and compliance issues.

Experience representing clients before administrative agencies such as the EEOC and state human relations commissions (PHRC) is strongly preferred.

Experience in employment litigation, including motion practice, depositions, and courtroom experience preferred.

Familiarity with Act 111 procedures and labor arbitration practice is a plus.

Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive pleadings and legal memoranda.

Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and work collaboratively with HR and management.

Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently, with strong organizational and time-management skills.

High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a commitment to quality client service.
