Apply Now The Law Department of Saint Gobain North America (SGNA) is seeking a dynamic and driven individual to join the team as a Division Intellectual Property Counsel in Malvern, PA. This individual will have responsibility for intellectual property matters within Saint-Gobain's CertainTeed businesses, including litigation management, strategic portfolio planning, trade secret protection and enforcement, trademark management, and general counseling on IP matters including patent prosecution.
- This individual will interact with all levels of the organization from R D engineers to senior business managers in the US and across the world.
- The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to rapidly learn a variety of technologies, provide business-minded strategic IP advice in diverse markets, exercise sound judgment, and connect meaningfully with all levels of colleagues
- particularly senior managers and technical professionals. This position reports directly to the Global Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and has one direct report.
Position Overview:
- Collaborate with business and R D leaders to create and manage IP strategies, including enforcement strategies.
- Assist in managing offensive and defensive IP litigations.
- Prepare, present, and implement strategic approaches to complex legal issues.
- Provide day-to-day IP-related legal advice to R D professionals and senior business managers.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property-related agreements such as licenses and joint development agreements.
- Manage patent preparation and prosecution to support IP strategies.
- 8+ years of experience as an IP attorney
- preferably
- o2+ years patent preparation and prosecution. o2+ years patent litigation experience at a nationally recognized law firm. oPrevious Corporate experience is a plus J.D. from an ABA accredited law school. Bar membership in good standing in at least one state B.S. in engineering, materials science, chemistry, biology, or physics
- U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registration Ability to present to top level executive management. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, writing, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Strong knowledge of applicable laws / procedures, and ability to explain complex issues to non-lawyers. Travel, including international travel, is expected (~10% max).
