Job Description

Represent the interests of Sentry in a variety of ways relating to subrogation, including analyzing, researching, and asserting coverage positions for claims associates and management.
What You'll Do:
As a Coverage Attorney, you will… Utilize your experience, education, and skills to develop coverage/legal opinions and educate claims associates regarding coverage and litigation issues as requested. Represent the interest of Sentry in subrogation related matters in a variety of ways, including analyzing, researching, and asserting positions for claims associates and management. Strategize complex insurance issues in the area of subrogation. Conduct extensive and detailed research on how the laws and applicable states affect the development and interpretation of coverages and legal defenses. Manage a partial caseload of litigated cases with varying degrees of complexity, and apply policy terms to non-routine, complex claims that involve multiple parties, complex/high exposures, novel issues, and ambiguous or nonexistent legal precedent. Assist claims associates in resolving matters through mediation, arbitration, settlement, friendly suit, or court approved resolution. May collaborate with, and monitor the work of, outside counsel to ensure quality and consistency of handling of common issues spread across various geographic areas of the country. What it
Takes:
Juris Doctor Degree Minimum five years of related work experience Federal Court experience highly preferred Trial experience (subrogation and liability) preferred Experience as a licensed attorney in at least one state with some in an insurance coverage setting and including experience taking defending depositions, court appearances, and handling dispositive motions; experience retaining expert witnesses is preferred Valid license to practice law, in good standing, in relevant state(s) Demonstrated ability to deal with people where conflict and controversy exist Ability to self-manage and handle varied docket of files with minimal oversight on a day-to-day basis
