Immigration Law, P.A. is a Weston, Florida firm led by Adriana Gomez. The Firm represents clients throughout the United States before the immigration courts, the asylum offices, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

THE POSITION

The Firm is hiring an Associate Attorney to carry an independent caseload across the Firm's full practice and to represent clients at hearings and interviews wherever the Firm's matters are pending. The Associate Attorney also reviews and approves case packages prepared by the paralegal team before filing, and reports directly to the Managing Partner.

Work location:

the position may be performed in person at the Weston, Florida office or remotely from anywhere in the United States, with travel to immigration courts, asylum offices, and USCIS field offices as matters require.

PRACTICE AREAS

• Removal defense and cancellation of removal
• Affirmative and defensive asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention Against Torture
• VAWA and U visas
• Waivers of inadmissibility of every type, including Forms I-601, I-601A, and I-212
• Adjustment of status and consular processing
• Family-based petitions, including Form I-130
• Naturalization and citizenship
• Appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals, motions to reopen and reconsider The Firm does not currently accept employment-based visa matters or detained matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Appear at master calendar and individual merits hearings before the immigration courts.
• Appear at asylum office and USCIS interviews and appointments, and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony.
• Conduct direct and cross-examination and present oral argument.
• Prepare and file pre-hearing statements, briefs, particular social group formulations, country-conditions filings, motions, and appearance forms (EOIR-28 and G-28).
• File through EOIR ECAS and maintain the calendar for assigned matters.
• Negotiate with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor where prosecutorial discretion or stipulated relief is available.
• Review and approve paralegal-prepared packages for legal sufficiency before filing, and return them with specific written corrections within five business days.
• Prepare and approve responses to Requests for Evidence, Notices of Intent to Deny, and Notices to Appear.
• Prepare briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals, motions to reopen and reconsider, and supporting legal memoranda. Every authority is verified in a primary source before it is filed.
• Counsel assigned clients in English and Spanish, and record all legal advice in the case file the same day.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Admission to the bar of any U.S. state, in good standing.
• Two or more years of United States immigration practice, including independent appearances at hearings or interviews.
• Full fluency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, including the ability to take testimony and counsel clients in Spanish.
• Experience across the Firm's practice areas.
• Willingness to travel to any court, asylum office, or USCIS field office where a matter is scheduled.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

PREFERRED

• Practice before immigration courts in more than one state.
• Regular experience with asylum office and USCIS interviews.
• Experience writing briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
• Working knowledge of Docketwise and

EOIR ECAS.

• Experience supervising paralegals.
• AILA membership.

TRAVEL The position requires travel to any immigration court, asylum office, or USCIS field office where a hearing or interview is scheduled. Appearances are made by video where the tribunal permits and in person where it does not. The Firm pays all approved travel expenses.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Base salary of $90,000 per year.
• Discretionary quarterly bonus based on individual performance and Firm results.
• Monthly health insurance allowance toward the premium of individual coverage selected by the attorney, under the Firm's written plan.
• Paid time off.
• Payment of bar dues, continuing legal education, and AILA membership.
• All approved travel expenses paid.
