Job Description

Job Summary Sound Impact Law, PLLC is seeking an experienced and motivated Part-Time Litigation Associate Attorney to join our growing boutique law firm. Sound Impact Law is primarily a business law firm serving entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations throughout Washington. Our practice includes business formation, contracts, compliance matters, and related business advisory work. We also maintain an active civil litigation practice involving business and commercial disputes, contract disputes, real property matters, employment-related disputes, and other select civil matters. We are looking for an attorney who already has practical litigation experience and is ready to take meaningful ownership of an active caseload. This is not an entry-level training position. However, we are open to candidates with as little as one year of substantive litigation experience if they have developed a strong foundation in Washington civil practice and are capable of independently moving cases forward. The associate will manage their own assigned matters with support from experienced staff, firm resources, and the Principal Attorney. The ideal candidate is comfortable making strategic recommendations, communicating directly with clients and opposing counsel, drafting and arguing motions, managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, negotiating resolutions, and preparing matters for hearings, arbitration, and trial. Experience with arbitration is highly valued. Experience representing clients in administrative hearings or agency proceedings is a plus. This position is intended to have room for growth as the firm continues to scale, including the potential for increased hours, responsibilities, and advancement for the right attorney. Core Responsibilities Independently manage an assigned caseload of civil litigation matters from intake and initial case assessment through resolution; Develop case strategy and provide practical legal advice to clients regarding claims, defenses, risks, and resolution options; Draft, review, and revise pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other litigation documents; Conduct legal research using Westlaw and apply Washington statutes, court rules, and case law to active matters; Manage written discovery, document production, subpoenas, and related discovery obligations; Take and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony; Appear in Washington courts for motions, status conferences, show cause hearings, and other proceedings; Prepare for and participate in mediations, arbitrations, evidentiary hearings, and trials; Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, courts, arbitrators, experts, and other parties as appropriate; Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution; Maintain deadlines, case strategy, and matter progress with support from the firm's litigation and administrative staff; and Collaborate with the Principal Attorney and firm team on complex, strategic, or high-risk issues while maintaining primary responsibility for assigned matters. Required Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; Active Washington State Bar license in good standing; At least one year of substantive civil litigation experience ; Working knowledge of Washington civil procedure, court rules, discovery practice, and motion practice; Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and substantive legal correspondence; Ability to independently manage deadlines and move an assigned caseload forward; Strong legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills; Sound professional judgment and ability to identify when an issue should be escalated or discussed with another attorney; Strong client communication and negotiation skills; and Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative law firm where attorneys are expected to take ownership of their matters. Preferred Experience with business or commercial litigation; Arbitration and mediation experience; Deposition experience; Courtroom or contested hearing experience; Administrative law, agency investigation, or administrative hearing experience; Experience with employment, real estate, construction, partnership, or other business-related disputes; Experience using Westlaw; and Experience with MyCase or comparable law practice management software. About the Firm Sound Impact Law is a growing boutique firm serving clients throughout Washington. We are a lean and collaborative team that values strong advocacy, practical problem-solving, responsiveness, and high-quality legal work. Our attorneys are given meaningful responsibility and the resources necessary to do their work effectively. We are looking for someone who wants the autonomy of managing their own matters without practicing in isolation. The associate will have access to experienced litigation support, firm systems and research resources, and attorney collaboration when strategy or difficult issues warrant it. For the right candidate, this position offers an opportunity to grow alongside the firm as our litigation practice and team continue to expand.
