Job Description Private Sector Housing Officer Location:
Uxbridge, Middlesex (Hybrid)
Rate:
£22.79 per hour
Working Pattern:
Hybrid Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to investigate housing complaints, inspect private rented properties, and enforce housing legislation to improve standards across the private rented sector. Key Responsibilities Investigate complaints relating to private sector housing.
Carry out inspections of private rented properties and HMOs.
Assess hazards using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
Enforce housing legislation under the Housing Act 2004, Environmental Protection Act 1990, and related legislation.
Prepare and serve statutory notices, schedules of works, improvement notices, prohibition orders and other enforcement documents.
Process property licence applications and inspect licensed properties.
Monitor compliance with HMO and selective licensing schemes.
Correspond with landlords, managing agents and tenants.
Prepare prosecution files, civil penalties, rent repayment orders and tribunal documentation.
Attend court and tribunal hearings where required.
Maintain accurate case records and reports.
Work with internal departments and external agencies to resolve complex housing issues. Essential Requirements Experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer, Environmental Health Officer, or similar.
Strong knowledge of:
Housing Act 2004
HHSRS
HMO Licensing
Private Sector Housing legislation
Environmental Protection Act 1990
Experience carrying out property inspections and enforcement.
Ability to prepare legal notices and enforcement documentation.
Experience dealing with landlords, tenants and managing agents.
Strong report writing and case management skills.
Ability to attend court or tribunal where required.
Full UK driving licence is desirable.
