About Northern Nevada Legal Aid:

Formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA) is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1965. NNLA provides Northern Nevada's vulnerable populations with access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay, to protect their rights, safety, and family stability. NNLA plays a vital role in serving domestic violence victims and their children; protecting the rights of abused and neglected children, the indigent, and the elderly; and increasing the safety and stability of immigrants who are elderly or victims of crime and domestic or sexual violence. Our purpose is to achieve justice for those whose voices might otherwise not be heard, to empower individuals to advocate for themselves, and to make positive changes in the communities we serve. Northern Nevada Legal Aid seeks a Part-Time Estate Planning & Probate Staff Attorney for our Senior Law Center, Housing & Consumer Protection Unit. This position will provide counsel, advice, and direct legal representation to senior individuals in Northern Nevada, focusing on all elements of estate planning, including wills, trusts, and other planning instruments, as well as probate and estate administration, real property transactions, and general end-of-life planning with an emphasis for seniors. Our estate planning staff attorneys play a critical role in protecting seniors' autonomy and legacy by ensuring they can protect themselves, their assets, and their property rights as they age, particularly for our low-income clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain direct representation and an active caseload in estate planning and probate, as well as providing legal counsel, advice, and referrals to suitable resources. This includes drafting legal documents and maintaining your own calendaring. Establish and maintain regular contact with clients throughout the duration of their legal actions, with a focus on trauma-informed representation where applicable. Attend hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and other court functions fully prepared to actively advocate for clients. Participate in outreach events for NNLA, including leading trainings and seminars, collaborate with community partners, and serve as a resource to the community. Provide legal services to NNLA clients in other program areas when needed and perform other tasks as assigned. Collect, update, and review client and grant-reporting data on a monthly basis. Complete other administrative tasks as assigned or necessary.

Qualifications:

Must be a member of the Nevada Bar, or possess an active Bar License in good standing from any U.S. jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred but not required. Experience with all elements of estate planning, including wills, trusts, and other planning instruments, as well as probate and estate administration, real property transactions, and general end-of-life planning with an emphasis for seniors. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal matters in a way that ensures client understanding. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including seniors and vulnerable populations. Strong problem-solving skills, efficiency in decision-making, and the ability to refer clients to appropriate resources. Strong organizational, technical/database, and detail-oriented skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also collaborating with a supportive team of professionals. Ability to travel. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary:

$40

•$50 per hour depending on experience 12 paid holidays annually Generous PTO program accruing up to 3 hours per pay period (increased accrual after 2 years) Employee Assistance Program Part-time flexibility This is primarily an in-office position, but remote work may be available upon approval

Location:

Work will primarily be performed at NNLA's office locations, including the Senior Law Center located at 1155 E. 9th St., NNLA's Main Office at 401 Ryland Street, Suite #100 Reno, NV 89502, Reno Justice Court's Self Help Center at 1 S. Sierra St., and other locations as necessary for advancement of organizational and client needs. While most work is expected to be on-site, a hybrid/telework schedule may be considered depending on organizational needs.
