Job Description

We're partnering with an established, mission-driven nonprofit to hire a Supervising Attorney for its in-house legal team. This is a true "player coach" opportunity. You'll supervise and develop attorneys while remaining actively involved in the practice yourself, particularly in civil litigation and higher-level legal matters. The Chief Legal Officer is looking for a strong second-in-command who can help shape the direction of the department, strengthen risk and compliance practices, and continue moving Legal from a reactive resource to a proactive business partner. What You'll Do Supervise, mentor, and develop attorneys while helping manage workloads across the legal team Maintain an active litigation practice and step into more complex matters when needed Develop litigation strategy and provide guidance to attorneys handling cases Advise internal teams on legal risk, compliance, contracts, policies, and operational matters Review and negotiate commercial and real estate-related agreements Translate complex legal issues into practical guidance for employees and leadership Develop training and resources that help non-legal teams better understand legal and compliance requirements Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and department efficiency Help develop a more formal organizational approach to risk management Support the implementation and continued development of legal technology and contract management processes Partner closely with the Chief Legal Officer on department strategy and longer-term initiatives What We're Looking For Active Massachusetts Bar admission required Strong hands-on civil litigation experience, including meaningful courtroom exposure Previous experience directly supervising and developing attorneys Ability to independently manage complex legal matters and exercise sound judgment Strong written, oral advocacy, and negotiation skills Experience with contracts, regulatory matters, real estate, housing, or nonprofit organizations is helpful Comfortable working across both litigation and advisory matters Strategic mindset with an interest in risk management, compliance, and process improvement
Pay:
$150,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
