This role is expected to work in the office 4 days a week. The Trading and Markets Operations (TMO) Digital Assets legal team is responsible for providing legal support to Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.'s and its affiliates' digital assets products and platforms, including spot crypto custody and trading and others in development. This position will report to the Managing Director of the Digital Assets legal team. As a Director, Legal Counsel- Digital Assets Initiatives, you will primarily be responsible for legal support of the platforms on which digital assets products are made available to the customers of Charles Schwab & Co. and its affiliates, although the position will take on additional responsibilities related to other product platforms from time to time. Support will include strategic initiatives, regulatory compliance, and negotiating agreements with product issuers or advisers. The ideal candidate will have experience in support of both broker-dealer and banking platforms and issues specific to digital assets. Candidate should have familiarity with the federal securities laws and/or banking laws. What you have
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in a state bar. 4-7 years legal experience at a law firm with banking law and/or securities law related to intermediaries such as broker-dealers and investment advisers. Experience with crypto, blockchain, or digital assets desired but not required. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to work on multiple projects, prioritize activities, and meet deadlines with strong organizational skills. Must be a self-motivated professional with excellent people skills and able to work independently. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship. What you'll do: Provide legal advice related to strategic and growth initiatives involving digital assets. Draft customer agreements and disclosures related to new products. Draft and negotiate intermediary agreements with third party alternative investment providers and issuers. Provide legal guidance on related marketing or disclosures, and policies and procedures. Monitor regulatory developments applicable to digital assets and advise senior leadership and the business on the impact. Build and maintain strong partnerships with the digital asset business, strategy, and operations teams and compliance and legal colleagues to ensure clear alignment and priorities within the appropriate legal and regulatory framework In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or other incentive opportunities.
