Job Description

Join our dynamic legal team as an Assistant City Attorney, where you will play a vital role in providing expert legal counsel and representation on a broad range of municipal matters. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse array of legal issues and support City operations through legal research and writing, prosecution of ordinance violations, drafting and review of ordinances and legal documents, public records matters, and legal support to City officials, boards, and departments. You will be instrumental in safeguarding the city's interests while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, and passionate about public service and legal advocacy. Responsibilities Provide legal advice and counsel to city departments, officials, and boards on a broad spectrum of municipal issues. Assist with public records requests, claims reviews, licensing, and other municipal legal issues. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents with precision and clarity. Represent the city in legal and administrative proceedings, including in court to prosecute ordinance violations such as traffic, housing, building, and fire code cases. Conduct comprehensive legal research utilizing tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategies and policy development. Prepare detailed litigation documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, legal opinions, and memoranda that clearly articulate legal arguments. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; admission to the Wisconsin State Bar is required. Demonstrated expertise in estate planning, environmental law, negotiation skills, immigration law, landlord-tenant law, family law, securities law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, tribal law & regulations, litigation procedures, or patent law is highly desirable. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal issues accurately. Excellent legal drafting skills with attention to detail for preparing clear and effective documents. Two or more years of legal practice, and prior experience in prosecution, civil litigation, or within a municipality is preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining high-quality work standards. Pay:
$83,343.00 - $114,289.00 per year
