A Legal Support Specialist works for a law firm, government, or a company subject to litigation, such as an insurance company. May assist with inmate processing and porale coordination. May assist with preparing and prosecuting cases, as part of a legal team or under the direction of a litigation attorney. May collect evidence, reviews files and assist with other litigation work.
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Child Support Specialist I/II at the Colusa Sutter Yolo Regional Child Support Agency. The Position Under close supervision, applies procedures needed to collect current and delinquent child support payments and obtain court orders for support; performs child support fiscal and financial case preparation and management; other related duties as required. These procedures include determining the impact of additional public assistance and/or adjustments; preparing legal documents for establishment and/or modification of child support orders; and reviewing cases for changes in circumstances, accurate withholding orders, and compliance with child support and medical support enforcement.
Child Support Specialist I:
This is the entry level in the Child Support Specialist Series. Incumbents work under close supervision performing duties similar to the Child Support Specialist II and are expected to demonstrate the ability to promote to the next higher level after successful completion of one (1) year of experience.
Child Support Specialist II:
This is the journey level in the Child Support Specialist series. Incumbents are assigned routine and difficult cases and are expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Child Support Specialist I:
$56,784- $69,035.20
Annually Child Support Specialist II:

Initiates delinquent notices to secure continued child support payments; Completes necessary forms to initiate computer input and maintains accurate files; Interviews welfare and non-welfare applicants to secure information regarding the probable whereabouts and earnings of absent parents; Advises absent parents of child support obligations; Monitors payments to ensure absent parents are in compliance with court orders; Determine past, present and future support payments; Determine impact of additional aid compensation and/or adjustments; Establish accounting and interest calculations; Ensures that forms and applications for child support are complete and accurate; Makes verbal and written inquiries to various agencies, firms, relatives and friends of absent parents to gain additional information regarding the whereabouts of absent parents; Research, reconstruct and audit case history; Collects, and assist in the collection, of skin tissue samples for DNA testing. Other Duties Reviews files to ensure sufficient information is available to file a complaint; Obtains financial statements to determine amount of payments which would be collected for child support; Performs other related duties as required. Some positions may require the performance or different essential or other duties depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
Child Support Specialist I Experience:
One (1) year of clerical experience in a Child Support Agency; OR Two (2) years of experience performing investigation, collections, credit, or lending duties.
Child Support Specialist II Experience:
One (1) year of experience comparable to an entry level Child Support Specialist. OR Two (2) years of experience in any capacity working with Child Support enforcement activities in any county in the State of California.
Special Requirement:
Spanish-speaking skills may be desirable qualifications for some positions Background Requirements Incumbents in this class will have access to Federal Tax Information and are subject to confidentiality and safeguarding requirements of Internal Revenue Code 6103(p)(4). As such, an individual selected for this position is subject to a thorough background investigation as stipulated in Section 5.1.1 of Internal Revenue Service Publication 1075, which includes the following: Review of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint results; Check of local law enforcement agencies where the subject has lived, worked and/or attended school within the last five (5) years and, if applicable, of the appropriate agency for any identified arrests; and Verification of an employee's eligibility to work in the United States.
