This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. The Bankruptcy and Recovery Specialist is responsible for managing the repossession process, asset recovery, and bankruptcy-related accounts to protect the credit union's financial interests. This role involves coordinating with repossession agents, legal counsel, and vendors, as well as representing the credit union in court proceedings. The specialist ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations while maintaining a high level of professionalism and member service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Repossession & Asset Management Manage the full lifecycle of repossession cases, from assignment to liquidation, ensuring timely processing and minimal loss. Monitor and assign repossession agents; request and track repossession titles and coordinate delivery to auction facilities. Evaluate repossessed collateral for potential repairs or improvements to maximize resale value. File and follow up on insurance claims and dealer refunds related to repossessed assets. Post-sale processing, including member notifications and documentation. Member & Vendor Communication Advise members on options before and after repossession and respond to general collection inquiries. Handle correspondence with vendors and internal departments regarding recovery matters. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all member and vendor interactions. Legal & Court Representation Attend court hearings and coordinate with legal counsel on repossession and short sale litigation. Ensure compliance with bankruptcy laws and credit union policies. Skip trace to locate collateral and increase recovery success. Reporting & Compliance Prepare daily and monthly reports on repossession and recovery activities. Process and log all bills related to repossessed accounts for management approval. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and organizational policies, including BSA, OFAC, FDCPA, SCRA, UDAAP, and others. General Support Present a positive image of the credit union through professional appearance and courteous interactions. Follow safety and security procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Manager of Special Accounts.EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional coursework or certifications in collections, legal studies, or finance preferred.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Solid understanding of lending, collections, repossession, and bankruptcy procedures. Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements including FDCPA, FCRA, SCRA, and UDAAP. Knowledge of skip tracing, small claims, and foreclosure processes.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of 2 years of experience in collections within a financial institution or legal office. Experience in repossession and litigation support preferred.HARD/TECHNICAL SKILLS/ABILITIES
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to use collection systems, skip tracing tools, and multi-line phone systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to perform financial calculations and interpret asset data.WORKING CONDITIONS
