Primary Purpose:
This role provides advanced legal and operational support to Tapestry's in-house Legal Department with respect to litigation, e-discovery, subpoenas, governmental and administrative matters and other department initiatives. The role partners closely with attorneys, outside counsel, and business stakeholders across Tapestry and its Coach and kate spade new york brands; exercises sound judgment; and operates independently in a complex, fast-paced environment. The role reports to the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel and is hybrid, with three days per week in our Hudson Yards, NYC office required, subject to change with Company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide advanced litigation support in complex civil, commercial, employment, regulatory, and other matters involving Tapestry and its brands, including case file management, deadline tracking, and matter status reporting. Coordinate legal holds, e-discovery, document preservation, collection, review, and production processes in partnership with attorneys, outside counsel, IT and business stakeholders. Assist in case preparation, including preparing chronologies, exhibits, discovery materials, and other litigation and investigation work product under attorney supervision. Serve as a technology-forward member of the Legal Department, with the ability to independently navigate, troubleshoot, and optimize document management systems, e-discovery platforms, workflow tools, matter management tools, and enterprise applications. Handle system-driven processes with minimal assistance and demonstrate a committment to continuous learning as legal technology evolves. Track and manage legal spend, including at the matter-level; assist with budgets, accruals, outside counsel invoices, vendor management, and Legal Department financial reporting. Serve as a procedural and operational resource on litigation, discovery, records and knowledge management best practices. Collaborate with attorneys and other department team members, outside counsel, and business stakeholders to ensure efficient matter management, timely execution, and adherence to deadlines. Manage matter files, document collection and productions, pleadings, correspondence, reports, and other materials in accordance with Legal Department protocols. Draft correspondence, declarations, discovery responses, subpoenas, and related materials; gather, review, and analyze information and documents needed for discovery responses. Continue to evolve and administer the document preservation notice process, including drafting, distributing, tracking and updating legal holds as appropriate. Perform factual and legal research using specialized software and tools, including Harvey, Westlaw/Lexis, PACER, Relativity, and internal databases, to locate, compile, and analyze information. Support the drafting, implementation, rollout, and maintenance of policies, procedures, training materials, and playbooks for the Legal Department. Draft and coordinate responses to subpoenas, governmental inquiries, and administrative claims and charges, including EEOC, OSHA, ministries or departments of labor, and other employment, regulatory, and escalated consumer matters. Draft, review, negotiate, and revise NDAs, routine commercial agreements, settlement documents, and other legal documents, escalating legal and business issues to attorneys as appropriate. The accomplished individual will possess . . . Bachelor's degree required; paralegal certificate or equivalent legal training preferred. At least six (6) years of progressive legal support experience in a law firm, corporate in-house legal department, or comparable legal, compliance, or legal operations function. Strong understanding of litigation hold practices, e-discovery tools, document preservation, records management requirements, and discovery workflows. Ability to manage projects, prioritize work, multitask, and respond effectively to shifting priorities and urgent deadlines. Experience developing, documenting, and managing document review protocols, workflows, and quality-control processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, legal research platforms, e-discovery tools, document management systems, matter-management systems, and litigation software such as Westlaw/Lexis, PACER, and Relativity. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and practically with attorneys, business stakeholders, outside counsel, and vendors. Prior experience in an in-house legal department supporting a global, publicly traded organization, ideally in retail, fashion, luxury, consumer products, or another brand-driven industry. Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, handle confidential and sensitive information, demonstrate flexibility in the face of changing priorities, and operate independently to meet deadlines while partnering professionally with attorneys and business leaders.
