$85,000 - $105,000 Position Overvie w We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Insurance & Risk Coordinator to support the insurance procurement, certificate of insurance (COI) management, and risk mitigation efforts for our rapidly growing retail footprint. This role is critical in ensuring our stores open and operate in full compliance with lease, legal, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in retail insurance, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate across finance, legal, operations, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities Insurance Procurement & Management:
Lead the end-to-end process of obtaining and renewing property, general liability, workers' compensation, and other relevant insurance policies for all retail locations. Evaluate insurance proposals, negotiate terms, and ensure cost-effective coverage aligned with company risk tolerance.
Broker Relationship & Performance Evaluation:
Maintain ongoing relationship with the incumbent broker as primary point of contact for day-to-day service delivery. Evaluate broker performance through service responsiveness, quote competitiveness, and alignment with company needs (informed judgment, not full negotiation). Collect and compare quotes from multiple brokers (in line with US regulations allowing only one broker per carrier for branded retail) to support renewal / replacement decisions.
COI Issuance & Administration:
Generate, track, and distribute Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for landlords, vendors, and partners as required by lease agreements and operational contracts. Ensure COIs accurately list additional insured parties and meet all contractual deadlines.
Compliance & Documentation:
Maintain a centralized database of all insurance policies, COIs, and related documents. Conduct regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance across all store locations. Collaborate with Legal and Finance teams to review lease insurance clauses and mitigate contractual risks.
Cross-functional Coordination:

Risk Mitigation Support:
Assist in developing and implementing risk management protocols for retail operations. Analyze claims data and provide insights to reduce future incidents and costs.

Serve as the internal coordinator for insurance claims — track claim process with broker, collect documents, follow up across stakeholders. Build basic claims / incident SOP from 0 1, including coordination with broker / Legal / store teams on consumer incidents (e.g., choking events).
Note:
This role does not require deep personal claims-handling experience — the key skill is knowing how to ask the right questions and pushing the broker / partners to deliver. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. 2+ years of experience in insurance coordination, risk management, or retail operations, preferably within a DTC/retail environment.
Familiarity with key insurance types:
GL, Property, Auto, Excess, Workers' Compensation Experience managing COIs and understanding of "additional insured" requirements. Strong analytical, organizational, communication and negotiation skills.
Preferred:
Prior experience supporting insurance / risk operations across both US and Canada markets — since the incumbent Hub broker services both regions, familiarity with Canada-side processes is a strong plus. Proficiency in G-Suite, Microsoft Office, and experience with insurance databases or CRM tools is a plus. Preferred Skills Knowledge of lease agreements and retail compliance standards. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, scaling environment. Proactive problem-solver with high attention to detail. The job posting highlights the most critical responsibilities and requirements of the job. It's not all-inclusive. There may be additional duties, responsibilities and qualifications for this job.
