National Roper's Supply is seeking a professional, observant, and customer-focused Loss Prevention Agent to support our Columbus retail location. The primary purpose of this position is to provide a visible and professional loss prevention presence throughout the store, creating an impression of control and awareness that discourages shoplifting and other criminal activity. The Loss Prevention Agent will actively observe customer behavior, identify potential theft or other suspicious activity, maintain a visible presence in high-risk areas, and work closely with store leadership to protect NRS customers, employees, merchandise, and assets. This position is not simply about catching shoplifters. The successful candidate will understand that excellent customer service, awareness, visibility, and professional engagement are some of the most effective tools in preventing loss. The Loss Prevention Agent will also serve as an important communication link between the NRS Columbus store, the Director of Inventory & Loss Prevention, store leadership, and local law enforcement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES LOSS PREVENTION & DETERRENCE
Maintain a highly visible and professional presence throughout the retail store. Create an overall impression of control, awareness, and accountability that discourages criminal behavior. Observe customer behavior and identify patterns or activities that may indicate potential theft or other suspicious activity. Use professional customer engagement and exceptional service to deter potential criminal activity. Monitor merchandise movement and activity in areas identified as higher risk for shrink. Regularly walk the entire sales floor and specifically monitor: Fitting rooms Blind spots Corners and low-visibility areas High-shrink merchandise areas Other areas identified by store leadership or the Director of Inventory & Loss Prevention Identify potential vulnerabilities in store layout, merchandising, employee practices, or customer flow that could contribute to shrink. Communicate observed concerns promptly to appropriate store leadership.
INCIDENT REPORTING & INVESTIGATION SUPPORT
Document suspected theft, attempted theft, suspicious behavior, safety concerns, and other loss prevention incidents accurately and professionally. Provide detailed incident reporting to the Director of Inventory & Loss Prevention. Maintain accurate records of significant loss prevention activity and incidents. Identify recurring patterns, locations, times, merchandise categories, or behaviors associated with shrink. Assist store leadership and the Director of Inventory & Loss Prevention in identifying opportunities to reduce loss. Preserve relevant information and follow NRS procedures regarding suspected theft and incident documentation. Escalate incidents appropriately and immediately when circumstances require additional assistance.
LAW ENFORCEMENT RELATIONSHIP
Serve as a professional point of contact for the local police department regarding theft and loss prevention issues at the Columbus NRS location. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with local law enforcement. Coordinate with law enforcement when incidents require police involvement. Provide accurate and professional information regarding reported incidents when appropriate. Follow all NRS policies and applicable laws regarding contact with, detention of, or interaction with suspected offenders. Never place personal safety, customer safety, or employee safety at unnecessary risk.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Conduct a monthly safety walk of the Columbus retail location. Identify safety hazards, security vulnerabilities, and conditions that could contribute to injury, theft, or property loss. Communicate identified issues to store leadership and the appropriate NRS leader. Follow up on recurring safety or security concerns. Help identify opportunities to improve store security, customer safety, and employee safety.
MONTHLY LOSS PREVENTION & SAFETY COMMUNICATION
Prepare and present a monthly shrink/loss prevention topic to store leadership and/or the store team. Prepare and present a monthly safety topic based on current observations, incidents, seasonal concerns, or identified risks. Use observations from the sales floor and incident reporting to identify relevant training opportunities. Help build a culture in which every employee understands that loss prevention and safety are everyone's responsibility.
CUSTOMER SERVICE & STORE PRESENCE
Provide excellent customer service while maintaining awareness of potential loss prevention concerns. Greet and acknowledge customers in a professional manner. Maintain a friendly, approachable, and confident presence. Understand that legitimate customers should feel welcomed and valued—not watched or uncomfortable. Balance customer service with appropriate awareness of suspicious activity. Model professionalism and composure at all times.
IDEAL CANDIDATE NRS
is seeking an individual who is professional, mature, observant, confident, and trustworthy. The ideal candidate will have experience that demonstrates strong situational awareness, sound judgment, personal accountability, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. Preferred Background Military experience, particularly leadership, security, military police, or related experience Law enforcement experience Criminal justice education or professional experience Loss prevention or retail security experience Security, investigations, corrections, or related experience Equivalent experience may be considered.

Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in potentially stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding investigations and incidents. Ability to walk and remain active throughout a large retail environment for extended periods. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with store leadership. Ability to follow NRS policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Complete a background check.

IMPORTANT ROLE EXPECTATION
The Loss Prevention Agent is not expected to be a "security guard" standing in one location. This role requires an active presence throughout the store, continuous observation, professional customer interaction, regular movement through high-risk areas, detailed reporting, and ongoing communication with store leadership.
